Mount Merapi Activity Update January 13, 2019, There were 73 Earthquake Disasters

Channel Nasional. The Center for Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation (PVMBG) provides information on monitoring the latest activities of Mount Merapi.

Based on PVMBG monitoring per January 13, 2019 at 00.00 - 24.00 WIB, visually observed white and thin smoke as high as 200 meters from the summit of Mount Merapi.

The seismic activity that occurred on Mount Merapi was one time gusts and tectonic earthquakes.

Low frequency earthquakes occur 5 times and as many as 73 earthquake collisions occur.

The lava dome volume is 439,000 cubic meters with a growth rate of 3,400 cubic meters per day for the period of January 10, 2019.

Based on the observation of PVMBG, the avalanches occur 15 times with the dominant direction southeast (14 times) and northeast (1 time).

The average sliding distance is 100 - 600 meters, while the maximum sliding distance reaches 1.7 kilometers which occurred January 12, 2019, at 01:45 a.m. WIB.

At present, Mount Merapi is still on alert status (level 2) since May 21, 2018.

For these conditions, PVMBG provides recommendations to the surrounding community:

1. Communities, especially those in Disaster Prone Area III, are encouraged to remain calm and carry out activities as usual, always following information on Merapi activities.


2. Radius 3 kilometers from the peak of Mount Merapi to be emptied of population activities.

3. The climbing activity of Mount Merapi is temporarily not recommended except for the purposes of investigation and research relating to disaster mitigation efforts.

4. If there is a significant change in the activity of Mount Merapi, the activity status of Mount Merapi will soon be reviewed.

5. The public should not be provoked by issues regarding the eruption of Mount Merapi, whose sources are unclear and continue to follow the directions of local government officials or ask directly to the nearest Mount Merapi Observation Post via radio communication at the frequency of 165,075 MHz through the website www.merapi.bgl.esdm. go.id, BPPTKG social media, or BPPTKG office, Jalan Cendana No.15 Yogyakarta, telephone (0274) 514180-514192.

6. Local governments are recommended to socialize the current condition of Mount Merapi to the public.

Based on the Geological Disaster Report January 14, 2019 Mount Merapi (2968 m asl) has experienced continuous eruptions.

Based on the monitoring of the Volcano Observatory Notice for Aviation (VONA), the last GREEN color code (green) is sent, published on June 3, 2018 at 8:39 p.m. WIB.

Associated with the presence of white smoke blowing activity with the height of the smoke column as high as 3768 m above sea level or about 800 m above the peak.
