Status of Alert Mountain Mothers Again Erupt

Kolom Media. The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) reported Mount Ibu in West Halmahera, North Maluku, erupted at 17.12 WIT, Saturday, January 12, 2019. The eruption was reported 800 meters from the top of the crater.

"Based on the Gunung Ibu PVMBG Observation Post, the eruption height is 800 meters from the top of the crater. The volcanic ash column is leaning to the south. The status remains Alert (level 2)," said BNPB Head of Public Information and Public Relations, Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, in his statement.

Sutopo asked the community and climbers not to carry out activities within a 2 kilometer radius. Then, this range is expanded sectorally within 3.5 km to the opening of the crater in the northern part of the active crater of Gunung Ibu.

However, the eruption of Mount Ibu does not need to make the surrounding residents evacuate. Because, Mother's Mount erupts almost every day in the last three months.

"The community does not need to evacuate because it is outside the danger zone. The community has understood this eruption and did not panic. Because almost every day there is an eruption of Mount Ibu," he said.

He explained, since the last three months Mount Mother almost erupted every day. In fact, two days ago or Thursday, January 10, 2018, Mount Ibu erupted 80 times. Then, there was an avalanche of 18 times and a gust of 64 times.

"The name is active volcanoes even though alert status can erupt at any time. What is important is that the community is in a safe zone," he said.
